As a parent who no doubt spent time at your childrens' school/s and saw the work the Support Staff did and continue to do for a pittance, how can you support the decision of your colleague Anne Tolley in slashing funding to schools in a country that once and I stress once, led the way in "free" education. We both know there has been no such thing for years. There is no doubt in my mind that your Minister of Finance has had the very best of the schooling system in which the Support Staff play a major role.
Teachers are so inundated with paperwork that without us they would never be able to teach. What is the rationale behind the thinking of your party? A great majority of Support Staff live on the breadline and now face the prospect of joining a dole queue which for a lot of us, will be ta first How humiliating!! How degrading!!. How is that saving the country money? One doesn't have to be an Einstein to see it doesn't.
Yet you continue to pour funding into Sporting groups like the All Blacks viz a viz for the World Cup. These people have monetary rewards the likes of which we can only dream about whilst we continue to man the schools at which their children are taught.
When their children have accidents, soil themselves, run away, it is School Support to the rescue. The majority of us work above and beyond the hours paid for, not once a term, but weekly and in some instances, daily to keep the school running efficiently for the Principal and teaching staff. I now avoid saying I voted for your party because I believed that not only was a change necessary, but I also believed the lies that were told me, more fool me.
I implore you to think long and hard about your part in helping to destroy the lives of people and put your hand up and say "no more"!!! to Bill English.
