National Standards - Impact on Support Staff

Darfield High School held a site meeting today. Seven members attended and discussed the issue. Effects on support staff:

Admin:

• more paperwork/data input for admin staff
• changes to job description
• need more information to answer initial enquiries from parents

Teacher Aides:

• will funding be increased to support the potential increase in students needing extra help?
• may have to work with bigger groups of children
• what PD will be provided for teacher aides (none so far for teachers)?
• changes to job description

General:

• will schools need to employ more teachers and how will that affect job security for support staff?

All agreed that there should be a trial of National Standards.
