National Standards - They will impact on Support Staff !!!

National Standards were one of the National Party’s election promises therefore this government will never admit that the National Standards are flawed!! they claim the two main reasons for introducing National Standards is so parents throughout the country will not be confused by the
way schools report student achievement and that they have the right to
plain language information about how their children are getting on at
school.They also say New Zealand has a long ‘tail’ of
under-achievement, that up to 20% of students leave school without
adequate reading, writing and mathematics skills, and that National
Standards will make sure they get these skills.  YEAH RIGHT !!! Support Staff are one of the most important components in the learning of children in schools - are Support Staff going to get more hours to assist teaching staff to achieve the above?? will our job descriptions change?? will more teachers be needed therefore Support Staff lose hours???  - the government has made it clear there is no more resources or money for the implementation of their National Standards!!
After a round table discussion at Papanui High School - all Support Staff agreed that there must be a trial of National Standards!!
