I second those wishes from Linda. Here is Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in Scots Gaelic: Nollaig chridheil, pronounced "nollikchree-hel"  and Blianadh Bha Ur, pronounced "blee anna va ur".

National Standards

I've just been reading our great magazine, Education Aoearoa, and there is some fascinating stuff about national standards and about education in Finland (long time top scoring country in the PISA tests) where they don't have any national testing or standards. Please read and share the articles with your colleagues, school trustees, family, friends...

Jane Huggins replied to Elaine peck's discussion 'National Assessment'
Perhaps the Government will use the $350,000 they take from our subs... that might work out to $25 per student. But seriously, this just reaffirms what a waste of time and money the National Standards are. We do already know which children need our…

Thanks Jane Interesting question around the PD. You are correct that there has been nothing for teachers to date. How far off the radar are support staff? We will compile all of the information that we get back in and share at a later date. Sharyn

Jane Huggins replied to Marie Greaney's discussion 'Pink t-shirts and balloons - will it scare them?'
It's about raising awareness in our schools and community. The pink theme is simply the impetus to action. Our whole staff has come to the party today (and they are mostly PPTA members) and our Principal talked at assembly about the…

Alison - great letter! May I adjust it for our area and present it to our MP with the pledges?

Sure thing. Feel free.
I think if you are going to meet with your MP then you need to stress the point that we are not just going to push for higher salaries/wages for the lower paid Support Staff, but that we are working towards the `Pay Jolt' that Labour felt we deserved and were willing to implement it but..... we all know what happened next!
Cheers
Alison
