Tim Funnell My Gripe - don't read this as you may find it disheartning

Come February I will be stepping down as sectretary of the local NZEI branch because of health reasons, and my worksite will have to find another worksite rep.  There is a great posibility that I will be resigning from the union as the fees can be better spent else where, it all depends on how I manage over the school holidays.  I have had to change my home phone to a cheaper plan, and have had to cancell insurance policies.  All because the govenerment don't want us plebs to earn a decent…

Linda Jordan End of the Year

As we head towards the end of yet another year ensure you take time to reflect on all your hard work.  Without reflection we as Support Staff can not move on and work smarter with our next journey.  Take the time too, to share with your colleagues the good times you have had.  All the best for the rest of the term.

Marcia Murphy Support Staff may be replaced with students

I was very upset to read that with Support Staff being reduced in our Schools, students may take up some of the work.Well don't all staff have to be Police checked before they work in a school .Are students going to be Police checked? Are the at "risk students "going to be working closely with at "risk students". I have worked at a Teacher Aide for 12 years. I know what our youth can be like. eg I would not touch a Student even to touch an arm you can be accused of inappropriate touching.… Continue

Margaret Stormont AGREEMENT RATIFIED NOW NZEI SUBS RISE BY 9.65%

Thats if I have got my sums right and I think I have.  I keep checking and get the same answers.

Can you believe it - I am seriously thinking of withdrawing from the union and going it alone.

Support staff have ratified the agreement - most thinking that what was offered was better than nothing - I don't think that they realise that entry level support staff will not get to what entry level cleaners get now ($15.03) until March 2013 and by then the cleaners will have had two…

Tim Funnell Now that the ratification is over...

Now that the ratification is over, we need to start letting NZEI what WE want to see happen.

For a start, I would like to see going back to a 12 monthly C.A. so that inflation can taken into account on a yearly basis..

Secondly, under the SSCA, Page 11, Section 3.3.1 "Note: Attention is drawn to the memorandum attached to this aggreement."  The Memorandum is on page 42  Job Titles.  Under Associate Clace, Grade A there is a entry techical assistant.  Grade B,…

Gaye Parlane Support Staff Day. "Canterbury style"

The earthquake in June meant we were unable to celebrate Support Staff Day like the rest of the country so we are having our very own day on Tuesday 27th September. Our Gorgeous and Glam Dinner at the Chateau on the Park is going to be fantastic and a chance for all us special Support Staff here in Christchurch to celebrate the wonderful work we all do in schools. See you there!!

Tanya Gant Thank you

Hi everyone

I just wanted to say a big thank you to those Support Staff who were able to attend the meetings so far. I recognise that some of you are unhappy about the current settlement offer - but I am personally looking forward to supporting the new campaign about changing the funding model for Support Staff. I am very aware that Support Staff deserve a better deal - you work so hard and as professionals who make a significant difference to the teaching and learning of our…

Tim Funnell The New SSCA

As this new collective agreement (CA) runs out at the end of 2013, we won't see a new agreement until 2014.  Sure, we get a 1.5% increase this year to cover the 5% plus in the cost of living.  But what is the inflation rate going to be like by April 2012?  Is 1.25% going to cover it? And what about April 2013?  I think SS are going to be in the poo financually by the time our new CA is settled in 2014.  What if inflation keeps rising. 7.5% in 2012?  10% by 2013? When our CA is settled in…

Margaret Stormont Support Staff not getting a fair deal

I was very disheartened at how NZEI is advertising to everyone of the BOOST to Support Staff pay packets with a 4% pay rise over a little under 29 months.

Saying it like that makes it sound like we are getting 4% straight out – we are hearing comments like wow you are getting a 4% pay rise – yeah right! On the ‘Speak Up for education’ release (16 August 2011) it doesn’t even mention the breakdown of the 4% over the 3 years only says “over a little under 29 months”.

To me this is… Continue

Neil PUM Feedback

Well, I just got home after the PUM and am feeling a little peeved.

The general feeling seemed to be one of "well we better take this, it's the best we will get"

Even the idea of settling for a 4% wage rise over the term of 28 months makes me feel a little downtrodden.

Inflation is running at 5% at the moment.

Food prices have increased by 7% in the last quarter.

Petrol by 20.1%

Electricity 7.8%

GST went up to 15% in the December 2010…

John Ferguson My views on the pay deal

The pay rise and other points for the leadership team. Well after all the traffic that has gone on the Fair Deal boards I thought I would start my own discussion.

Grateful you may be Chic it still does not get away from the fact that it is a very poor deal. Lets use some random figures. Lets say that you earn your money to feed your family. It costs $100 to feed your family and you are paid $100. A year later you get the pay rise of 1.5% inflation is running at 5% your pay goes up to…

Sue Nimmo Paid Union Meetings

I strongly request that ALL Support Staff members attend their Paid Union meetings that are being held over the next three weeks. These meetings are being held to ratify the settlement of the Support Staff Collective and Kaiarahi Reo Collective Agreements. being one of the negotiation team I know we achieved the best settlement we could in this financial climate. By attending your PUM's you are able to get more information and ask questions around this settlement. Have your say. Please do…
